Six disciplines. One machine.

The same way of working, pointed at six layers of the same system.

  • Decomposition, interfaces and boundaries designed from the system in front of us — the one that exists, or the one that has to. Every proposed boundary is a claim, tested against how change actually arrives.

    Produces

    • Complete applications: interface, services, data, deployment
    • Decomposition and interface contracts
    • Migration paths that keep the system running throughout
    • Decision records with their evidence attached

From nothingWe build the whole application and hand over a running system, not a repository.

We do not propose a rewrite for a system we have not measured.

Loop position — Reason · Engineer

  • Statistical, causal or learned — chosen by what the problem needs, not what is fashionable. The deliverable is never only the model: it is the model, the range over which it was validated, and an honest account of what it costs when it is wrong.

    Produces

    • Models fitted to measured data, validated out of sample
    • Estimates with confidence intervals and stated assumptions
    • Cost-of-being-wrong analysis before deployment

From nothingOn a new product we start with the smallest sufficient intelligence, and earn our way up.

We do not ship a model whose failure cost has not been quantified.

Loop position — Reason · Engineer

  • Saturation, degradation and recovery characterized empirically, then engineered deliberately — the failure modes we want in place of the ones the system chose for itself.

    Produces

    • Capacity and saturation models built from measurement
    • Recovery procedures that have been executed, not written
    • Degradation designed rather than discovered

From nothingA new system ships on a substrate sized for the load we measured, not the load in the pitch.

We do not scale a system we cannot observe.

Loop position — Engineer · Operate

  • The perimeter on the diagram is an assumption like any other. We measure the one that exists — the paths, privileges and failure modes an adversary would actually use — and engineer from the evidence.

    Produces

    • Threat models grounded in observed behavior
    • Controls verified by exercising them, not by listing them
    • A stated boundary of what remains unverified

From nothingTrust boundaries are named while the architecture is still an argument, which is the only cheap time to name them.

We do not certify a defense we have not exercised.

Loop position — Measure · Engineer

  • Settlement, custody and contract logic are systems whose mistakes are denominated in money and often cannot be undone. Reversibility is priced before it is given up, and invariants are verified rather than assumed.

    Produces

    • Invariants stated formally and checked continuously
    • Irreversibility priced and decided explicitly
    • Reconciliation designed in, not bolted on

From nothingReconciliation and custody are designed in at the start, because they cannot be added to a ledger later.

We do not deploy an irreversible mechanism without pricing its failure.

Loop position — Engineer · Operate

  • When the problem is not yet well understood, the work starts before engineering does: framing the question, building the smallest experiment that answers it, and carrying only reproducible results forward into structure.

    Produces

    • Questions framed so they can be answered
    • Experiments whose results are reproducible
    • The record of what was ruled out, and why

From nothingThis is the usual starting point when the product does not exist and the question behind it is not settled either.

We do not productize a result we cannot reproduce.
