The shape of the company decides what it is capable of doing. So here is the shape.

The people who measure are the people who build
Work is done by small teams inside your system, alongside the engineers who own it. Nobody hands a finding to a delivery team that was not in the room when it was taken — the person who wrote the conclusion is the person who has to make the change work.
Every engagement opens with a defined period
A measurement period on a system that exists; a definition period on one that does not. Both are bounded and agreed before they start, both produce a written statement rather than a deck, and both end at a point where either party can stop without owing the other an explanation.
The instruments are yours
Whatever we build to see your system stays with you, documented, running, and without a license attached. An engineering company that leaves an organization less able to measure itself than it found it has done the work badly, whatever else it shipped.
We write down what we were wrong about
Decision records carry the constraint that motivated them, so a later engineer can tell whether it still holds. When a measurement contradicts something we asserted earlier, the record is amended rather than quietly replaced.

How an engagement opens

  1. 01A technical conversationAbout the system, not the project. We are establishing one thing: whether success here can be observed at all.
  2. 02A defined periodMeasurement if it exists, definition if it does not. It produces a written statement of what we found, and it is the point at which either party can stop.
  3. 03A proposal built on itWith the uncertainty stated and the parts we would not attempt named explicitly, rather than priced optimistically.
  4. 04Engineering in incrementsEach one verified against the baseline, with the instruments handed over as we go rather than at the end.

A

What this costs you

A slower start than you will be offered elsewhere. An early document that frequently contradicts the brief you wrote. And an engineering partner who will tell you a change is irreversible before it is made, at the moment that is least convenient to hear it. We think that is the trade worth having, and we would rather say so before you engage us than after.

B

What we decline

  • Work whose success cannot be observed by anyone, including us.
  • Timelines constructed so that measurement does not fit inside them.
  • Mandates that arrive with the conclusion already written.
  • A rewrite of a system nobody has measured, however obvious it looks.

StandingWe say so directly, and early. A decline is not a negotiating position.

If your work survives the list above, write to us.
